Macclesfield FC represents a new chapter in a proud footballing story that stretches back to 1874.
Following the liquidation of Macclesfield Town in 2020, the future of football in the town was uncertain. Later that year, the Moss Rose Stadium and remaining assets were purchased by Robert Smethurst, with Macclesfield FC created to bring football back to the town and build a club with ambitions for the future.
The Silkmen played their first competitive fixture in July 2021 and have enjoyed a remarkable rise through the English football pyramid ever since. Back-to-back league titles in their first two seasons were followed by promotion to the National League North in 2025, after a record-breaking campaign that saw Macc finish 26 points clear and set a Northern Premier League record of 109 points.
That journey has produced some unforgettable moments, but few compare to January 2026. With 117 places separating the two sides, Macclesfield defeated Premier League FA Cup holders Crystal Palace 2–1 at the Leasing.com Stadium in one of the greatest shocks in the history of the competition.
But Macclesfield FC is about far more than results.
